Marking Client As Tax Exempt in POS

Modified on Sat, 28 Jun at 5:16 AM

MyTime allows businesses to mark individual clients as tax-exempt. This status enables those clients to make purchases without being charged certain applicable taxes.

Things to know:

  • The ability to mark clients as tax-exempt is controlled by the "Editing Client Tax Status" access control setting. By default, this permission is blocked for all roles except the account owner.
  • To configure sales tax settings, learn more here.
  • Once a client is marked as tax-exempt, they will either be fully exempt from taxes, or be charged the exemption rate configured during your tax setup, depending on your tax configuration.

To mark a client as tax-exempt via POS:

  1. Navigate to POS > New Ticket
  2. Add client and any item (service, membership, gift card, package, and/or product)
  3. At the bottom of the ticket, check the 'Exempt' checkbox in the tax line
  4. In the Tax Exemption Number modal:
    • Enter the client’s tax exemption number
    • If the client should remain tax-exempt for future purchases, check the ‘Save on File’ checkbox
  5. Save
  6. Select Take Payment to complete the transaction
  7. Once payment is processed, close the ticket
